The short version
FastKey does not record or transmit what you type. Licensing and network activity depend on your edition: the direct download uses our trial and licence services; the separate Setapp edition uses Setapp's framework, including usage reporting.
The app
- Keyboard privacy. The Tap Test watches Caps Lock while its window is open; it does not record text you type. Input Monitoring is needed for that test, not for removing the Caps Lock delay.
- Direct-download edition. No FastKey account or behavioural analytics are required. The app contacts our services to register and check the trial, activate and validate licences, and manage device limits. A stable, salted hash derived from your Mac's hardware identifier identifies the device; the raw hardware identifier is not sent. The app also supports software update checks and downloads.
- Local settings. Preferences and licensing state are stored locally. The Setapp edition has separate preferences and does not use the direct edition's trial or licence services.
Setapp edition
Setapp's framework handles entitlement checks and reports app lifecycle and usage events. Our integration also reports a user-interaction event when you open the menu. These events do not include your typed text or Tap Test keystrokes.
Setapp may process account, device, purchase and technical information to provide its services. Please read the applicable privacy information at Setapp checkout and in the Setapp Privacy Notice. The direct-download edition does not contain the Setapp framework.
Purchases
Payments are handled by our merchant of record (identified at checkout), which processes your payment details and receipt email under its own privacy policy. We receive order information (such as your email and license key) needed to deliver and support your purchase.
This website
We do not add our own website analytics. Our hosting provider may log technical request data, such as IP addresses. Checkout providers have their own privacy and cookie practices.
Links labelled as Setapp partner links may earn Syrian Apps a commission. Following one takes you to Setapp, which may use referral cookies to attribute a purchase. Pages displaying the official Setapp badge load its script from Setapp. This sends normal request information, such as your IP address and browser details, to Setapp. We do not send typed text to Setapp. See Setapp's privacy and cookie information before using its services.
